Ask HN: How to Find a Mental Health Professional?

We've been having a lot of great discussions here on HN lately about mental health, and the suggestion to seek professional help rings true. But, depressed and burnt out and feeling isolated, the project of even finding a therapist in the first place can be overwhelming. I live in a large city, where there are literally thousands of therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, licensed social workers, life coaches, you name it. About half of them even accept my insurance. How does one even begin to narrow the options down? After asking my GP and getting no suggestions, I'm at a complete loss.
